On paper, Spain were the favourites of the game in Zaporozhye. They took an easy victory against Cyprus in the first round and then they travelled to the Ukrainian city.

 

However, the game did not go according to the plans of the young Spanish team. The Ukrainians had a strong defence and the team of Garcia Cuesta could not overcome it.

 

The new coach of the Spanish national team could not count on Carlos Ruesga this time and without one of the best Spanish talents Ukraine were better.

 

It was a very close game and Ukraine could never lead by more than two goals during the 60 minutes. The Spanish side were near, but they had to congratulate at the end.

 

The Eastern Europeans were very effective against the Spanish defensive wall and took the two points.
