Belarus

The team of coach Spartak Mironovich have done a great job to qualify for Euro 2008. This will be the first European Championship for the Belarus after 1994. In fact, they had a difficult road leading to Norway. It started with a Qualification Round in Brest. Belarus have beaten Slovakia (the Slovaks also qualified for Euro2008) to reach the play-offs on top of the group. The Swiss team came next, but it was no problem after a 9-goal home victory. German first division player, Ivan Brouka, was the leader at home, while Siarhei Harbok at the second leg. The opponents will have to pay lot of attention to the young player of Kronau/Östringen, Harbok.

The Coach: Spartak Mironovich

For over 30 years, Spartak Mironovich has led SKA Minsk, and since its foundation, he has heads the national team of Belarus. It can be said that Mironovich has had runs of good luck and a string of bad luck. The national and international accolades dried up in the early nineties and players abandoned the national team of Belarus to join “winning” teams. Now, for the first time in over a decade, Belarus is back in a competition being played on international level. After a clear victory over Switzerland, Mironovich’s team faces a gargantuan task if they are to make it past the preliminary round.

Vitali Feshcanka – Goalkeeper

In comparison to some of his team mates, Vitali Feshcanka is a Belarusian national team veteran. Having made his first international appearance in 1992, Vitali has made numerous international appearances though they have been stunted by the lack of international participation on the part of Belarus. Feshcanka began playing handball in 1986 at the age of 12 and ever since then he was hooked on the sport. He began his professional career with SKA Minsk and is now playing for 2. Bundesliga team OHV Aurich, signing his current contact in 2003.Knowing that the team has a mountain to climb in the preliminary round of this competition does not stop Vitali from making valiant preparations in his position as goalkeeper.

Siarhei Harbok – Left Back

Since breaking on to the international scene eight years ago, Siarhei has made a name for himself. He began his professional career playing for local Belarusian team Arkaton, before making his first international transfer to the Ukraine, where he signed to ZTR zaporozhye. Having spent two years in the Ukraine, Harbok accepted an offer from Celje Pivovarna Lasko that took him to Slovenia. His most important handball achievement to date is the silver medal he won in 2000 as part of the BLR delegation at the Men’s 18 European Championship. In 2007, he moved to Germany where he is currently signed to Rhein-Neckar Löwen.

Ivan Brouka – Left Wing

Twenty-seven year old Brouka made his international début almost a decade ago. His performance in the left wing position earned him a silver medal along with his colleagues at the Men’s 18 European Championship in 2000. Brouka is an extremely ambitious player. Being part of the Euro 2008 is an achievement in itself for the national team player. Ivan began his career at SKA Minsk and is currently signed to HC Melsungen. Knowing that there is so much to play for, and just like the majority of the other teams in this competition, Brouka is hoping for a ticket to the Olympic Qualification Tournament.
