A EURO of talents

The legendary manager of Hypo Niederösterriech, Gunnar Prokop, has been watching the games of the EURO in Skopje. Mr Prokop is apparently paying attention to the talents emerging in European handball. ehf-euro.com asked his opinion about the tournament.

Gunnar Prokop: I believe that the overall quality of the EURO is not as high as it was before. Probably this is due to the new Olympic cycle as many nations are building new squads. There are many talents around, but they lack experience and this has an impact on the games.

ehf-euro.com: Which team has the most talented players?

Gunnar Prokop: I have seen many good young players in Russia, but also in the French team. In France, for example, there is an interesting player playing with number 10, Allison Pineau. She is only 20.

ehf-euro.com: Which teams do you expect among the best four teams?

Gunnar Prokop: Romania, for sure, then Russia, Norway and also a surprise team. I believe that the teams having more experience will be the most successful.

However, even the top teams have problems. Gro Hammerseng is missing, for example, and her absence means minus 30 percent for Norway”¦

ehf-euro.com: And what do you think about the team of the hosts?

Gunnar Prokop: Macedonia may not have the best team at the tournament, but they are playing with a lot of emotion.

ehf-euro.com: How many games will you watch at the EURO?

Gunnar Prokop: Unfortunately, I have to return home on Sunday. I don´t have so much time; you know I´m a pensioner”¦
