With seven points each, both France and Poland are unbeaten at the EURO - they might this evening in Innbruck to decide just which team will go top of Group II.
The current world and Olympics champions, France, and world championship bronze medalists, Poland, will decide in a direct duel, which team will be number one in the group.
And as Spain play before against Slovenia, both will know, what they need in this match. Poland has already qualified for the semi-finals - as the first team, playing in Austria.
France have the same number of points, but still are not through to semi-finals, if Spain beat Slovenia, they will need a draw or a win to make it to the semi-finals.
Both teams are highly motivated ahead of their Group final.
”We have a great chance of taking the top spot and we want to get it”, French coach Claude Onesta said.
Polish player, Marcin Lijewski, was cautious ahead of tonight´s match. ”We have respect for France, they´re still the best team in the world. France didn´t play as well as expected, but still won the first two Main Round matches against Germany and Slovenia,” he said.
”We´re through, this is what counts,” continued Lijewski. ”Our position is much better than for France. Even if we lose, we´re in the semifinals.
”We´re going to beat them, as we want to be number one and - maybe - we will have an easier opponent in the semi-final,” he added.
If the match ends in a draw, France will finish as winner of the Group due to their better goal difference, mainly thanks to their clear victory against Slovenia. Poland therefore need to win to end as number one.
”We have great self confidence now so we can play without pressure,” Polish player Karol Bielecki said: ”We have reached our most important objective already. Now we can enjoy the game.”
