Domagoj Duvnjak was named before the championship as the player who could become the big superstar of EHF EURO 2010. Still he has not been able to perform at the level he recently displayed with his club, HSV Hamburg.
ehf-euro.com talked to the 21 year-old right back-player.
ehf-euro.com: Yesterday you beat Austria by 3 goals in a very intensive game. How do you see that game a day later?
Domagoj Duvnjak: We were prepared for a very tough game, as Austria had improved from game to game during this championship. Playing in front of a home crowd also is a big advantage. We had a very good first half and led by five goals, but in the second we had some problems and struggled.
ehf-euro.com: Do you prefer tight games that make it exciting for the spectators?
omagoj Duvnjak (smiling): Well, yes I do, as it is much more of a good feeling to win a ”˜thriller´, than to easily win by 6-10 goals difference.
ehf-euro.com: In the Preliminary Round you seemed to hold back with your performance, but yesterday you scored some crucial goals against Austria. Are you saving your energy for the final stages?
Domagoj Duvnjak: Indeed I had some starting problems, but I´m getting better with every game. Don´t forget, this season I transferred to German Bundesliga club HSV Hamburg. After leaving Zagreb it takes a little time to re-gain understanding with Ivano Balić during the game.
ehf-euro.com: Tomorrow Croatia have the decisive game against Denmark. Have you got any special tactics to beat the Scandinavians?
Domagoj Duvnjak: We are just about to analyse their matches on video. It will be a very tough game.
