Sian Rowland Special Media Award

During the final weekend of the 10th EHF Men’s European Handball Championship in Belgrade, Serbia, the European Handball Federation (EHF) announced the second recipient of the ‘Sian Rowland Special Media Award’.

The award is in memory of the former EHF Communications Manager, Siân Rowland, who passed away in December 2008.

Swiss-national Hans Hugentobler, who writes for Neue Zürcher Zeitung, was presented at with the award at the closing press conference of EHF EURO 2012 by Tor Lian, President of the EHF accompanied by Siân’s brother, JJ Rowland.

Hans is a former handball player, who played the original 11-a-side field version and modern indoor version. His media career saw him work as a radio journalist, covering handball for 35 years, including the 1980 Moscow Olympics. Hans has also worked for the EHF EURO website and as a Media Officer for Swiss club Kadetten Schaffhausen.

The first recipient of the Sian Rowland Special Media Award was Günter Pfeistlinger, Chairman of the AIPS Handball Commission, who worked together with Siân on numerous European Championships and other handball events in her ten years with the European Federation.

The Siân Rowland Special Media Award is presented on a biennial basis at the Men’s EHF European Championship.
