Main Round Group II
Håkons Hall, Lillehammer (NOR)
Netherlands - Hungary
27:19 (15:10)
Before the match Hungary had the opportunity to ensure themselves a top six finish at EHF EURO 2010, but on court the opposite of what was needed happened.
Hungary started at a much slower place than they needed and found themselves 5:1 down after just six minuutes.
The Netherlands and their hard-working defence took opportunities from their fast-breaks perfectly but suffered problems when Hungary adopted the 6-0 defensive system and were therefore restricted to a longer, slower attack.
There were high expectations going into the game for both goalkeepers; Marieke van der Wissel for the Dutch and Katalin Palinger for Hungary, but Palinger underperformed and was substituted in the first few minutes of the second half as the Dutch came out 15:10 up.
With five goals to claw back Hungary had plenty to talk about during that break, changing not just their goalkeeper but other positions to open up their defence.
The Magyar´s were unable to increase their attack and could only score one goal in the first seven minutes of the half as the Netherlands self-confidence and purposeful play left no room for their rivals.
