The City centre also developed from being dominated by the big industrial corporations from the past to being dominated by art, culture, Danish 'hygge' (cosiness) and charm. The city offers a wealth of experiences, whether you wish to visit the swimming baths or finer cultural experiences.
The earliest settlements date back to around 700 AD. Its location by the Limfjord made it an important harbour during the middle ages, and an industrial centre later. Today the city is in a transition from a working-class, industrial, city to a knowledge-based one.
Aalborg is known for its wide range of education. This broad array of education has also resulted in a full spectrum of spare time activities. Especially sport is on all tangents. Aalborg is Denmark´s the top sports city with top level sporting in a lot of disciplines.
